History

Universal Precision Instruments was renamed from Bates Machine, Inc. in September of 2006. Keith Bates started the company in 1979 as a general purpose machining operation. By 1990 he had changed over to primarily produce medical devices.

In 2005 Keith retired and the company was purchased by an investment group led by Ron Drown who now operates the company and is the President. Ron has continued the history of quality and attention to detail that Bates has been known for. With the financial strength gained through the change Universal is poised for growth.
